There is a range of support and help out there; hopefully you will be able to find something which meets your needs. Please don’t struggle on your own or in silence.

Teenagers and under-25s 

Childline helps anyone under 19 in the U.K. with anything that they're going through. Support includes a confidential listening service which is available at any time of the day or night. Tel: 0800 1111.

The Mix offers free information and support for under 25s in the UK, incl. advice about sex, relationships, drugs, mental health, money & jobs.Tel: 0808 808 4994 (11:00am-11:00pm daily). 

Kooth offers free, safe and anonymous online support for young people (aged 10 to 25) within the London Borough of Wandsworth and across many other UK regions. Support includes moderated message boards for talking with other young people, plus online access to trained youth counsellors. (weekdays, 12noon-9:00pm; Saturday & Sunday, 6:00-9:00pm).


Adults (relationships / family)

Relate provides counselling services for every type of relationship, including marriage, LGBTQ+ issues, divorce and parenting. Some of Relate’s services are free, but relationship counselling often involves paying a fee for each session with a trained counsellor. 

Family Lives offers supportive, non-judgmental help and advice to mums, dads, grandparents, stepparents and non-resident parents. Tel: 0808 800 2222 (weekdays 9:00am- 9:00pm; weekends 10:00am-3:00pm).

Cruse Bereavement Care is there to support you after the death of someone close. Tel: 0808 808 1677 (office hours plus some evenings).

Adults (general / other) 

The Samaritans will talk with anyone at any time; you don’t have to be desperate or suicidal to call or email. Tel: 116 123 (free to call).

Citizens Advice give free information on benefits, work, debt and money, consumer issues, family concerns, housing, involvement with the law or criminal justice system, immigration, and health. There’s a lot of free advice on their website, plus details of how to find your local Citizens Advice Bureau.


Adults (domestic violence / abuse)

In an emergency, dial 999.

The National Domestic Violence Helpline (UK-wide) is for females experiencing domestic abuse. See also this advice if you're worried about someone elseTel: 0808 2000 247 (24 hours).

The Men’s Advice Line (UK-wide) is for males experiencing domestic abuse. See also this advice if you're worried about someone else. Tel: 0808 801 0327 (weekdays, 9:00am- 5:00pm, plus Mondays & Wednesdays until 8:00pm).

Galop (UK-wide) offers a helpline for those experiencing domestic abuse within LGBT+ relationships. Tel: 0800 999 5428. (Mon, Tue, Fri 10am-5pm, Wed & Thu 10am-8pm; trans-specific advice available Tue 1-5pm).

Hourglass (previously 'Action on Elder Abuse') (UK-wide) is for those experiencing or concerned about the abuse of vulnerable older adults. Tel: 0808 808 8141 (available 24 hours).
